We generalize the Cohn-Vossen inequality to certain noncompact Kahler manifolds. This is related to a conjecture of Yau.

Gang Liu graduated from the University of Minnesota. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, and an assistant professor at Northwestern University. Now he is a professor at the East China Normal University.
